Santa Cruz-based artist John Hylton is a storyteller — of sorts. “I read a lot of mythology and I read a lot of modern astrophysics,” Hylton said, “and (they) kind of mesh together in my brain.” Hylton’s pieces are, in a sense, illustrations of the stories that arise from his internalization and conglomeration of these influences. He has jokingly referred to himself as “a Neolithic storyteller telling stories of modern science.” Hylton’s pieces have the potential to do much more than tell tales. He hopes they inspire narratives as well.
